Ubuntu Institute of Social Justice (UISJ)

Services offered by the Institute recognize the inviolability of humanity founded on justice, and affirm people’s inherent equality and entitlement to the same rights, privileges, accessibility and opportunities. Moreover, the knowledge and skills offered by the Institute affirm social solidarity in shared interests, objectives and standards.

OBJECTIVE

The objective stems from the conviction to promote social justice and the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. The Institute broadly seeks to create a free society; promote understanding, tolerance, friendship and peace; and to remedy social inequality. The Institute appreciates the greater good shared by many (appreciates the belonging in a greater whole in the sense that if one individual in a society is diminished all others in the community are diminished, humiliated or oppressed).

 

Mission

The mission of the Institute is to impart knowledge and skills that enable the recipient to understand and seek justice; embrace humanity; deliver services generously; and create and live a culture of honor.

 

Vision

The Institute envisions an education and projects that enhance just and sustainable solutions to social problems and create a safe, equitable and self-assured society.

Services offered by the Institute present a process and a goal ensuring full and equal participation of individuals in meeting common societal needs and values. The Institute presents a societal vision of justice, peace, freedom, dignity, equality, security, co-existence, understanding, generosity and honor. It affirms the proposition that “I am what I am because of who we all are”

STUDENTS

Studying at Ubuntu Institute of Social Justice (UISJ), you are a part of brightest minds drawn from diverse backgrounds. This website provides information and access to services and resources to help you get the most out of your life at the Institute.

Library and Computer Laboratory.

The Institute has a modern library and a computer laboratory. The facilities contain up-to-date learning material. The facilities are also open for guest legal practitioners and learners such as judges, registrars, magistrates, court clerks, and law students from other academic institutions who hold membership cards.

Accommodation.

Students are highly encouraged and advised to stay in campus for better coping with academic schedules and for convenience. The Institute has in place nice and affordable in-campus hostels.

Learning Environment.

The environment at the campus is very friendly for learning. The Institute has ample and conducive space for small groups out-door discussions.

Cafeteria.

Catering services at the Institute are privately run. You are free to have meals of your choice. You are required to pay every time you are served at the cafeteria, as this is not included in the Institute fees.

Chaplaincy.

The Institute is a diverse community, and students and members of staff will find a wide variety of palaces and forms of religious worship in and off campus. Various churches and a mosque are located at the walking distance.

Recreation and Sports.

The Institute has a netball and volleyball play grounds and facilities.
The Institute also has a jogging club. Jogging is done weekly along Geita Road. All safety measures are strictly taken.
The Institute also organizes an annual football league namely “Ubuntu Cup” involving an internal team as well as teams from the surrounding community.

Commuting.

The Institute is located at Bukumbi along Geita Road. The campus is conveniently accessible through public transport from all over Mwanza.
Travelers arriving in Mwanza by bus from Kigoma, Kagera, Geita, and Sengerema may get off at the campus gate.
Travelers arriving in Mwanza by bus from Dar es salaam, Songea, Mbeya, Iringa, Morogoro, Dodoma, Singida, Tabora, Shinyanga may get off at Usagara bus stop which is 5 kilometer away from the Institute.
